Listen to Primitive Baptist Singing Vision Statement The church is the possession of God, with Christ as its head. As a local assembly it is composed of penitent, baptized believers who seek to worship and otherwise serve God by personal growth in the grace and knowledge of Christ Jesus, to the glory of God and its own edification as the body of Christ. It is wholly Christ centered. Church members understand they are accountable to God for their every thought, word, and deed. They respect the Bible, God’s written word, as a thorough furnisher, and the only rule of faith and practice. They understand their need to search the scriptures, pray, meditate, and seek the counsel of wise brothers and sisters in order to understand God’s will for every affair of life. Furthermore, they understand that proper church order is best represented in instructions, lessons, and examples related to the primitive, first-century church, as presented in the New Testament. They acknowledge the church, as the body of Christ, is empowered by Christ to render proper chastening when called for, in an effort to correct and otherwise reclaim errant members. They realize the ministry is accountable to God as to the spiritual welfare of church members. As such, they gladly accept the authority of God-called ministers, who are themselves under authority to Christ. They follow their ministers even as their ministers follow Christ. Church members acknowledge they are to treat one another with the utmost kindness, consideration, and charity as brothers and sisters in Christ. They are committed to fellowship with one another, both in worship and in their daily affairs, as a community of believers. As such, they are spent and spend themselves in seeking to uphold the spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of one another. Followers of Christ understand that along with spending themselves they bear certain financial responsibilities in God’s service. They joyously give of their material goods to promote the preached word, see to the needs of the widows and orphans in the church, and supply, as God gives increase, to the needs of others. In so doing, they understand that God respects their serving others’ needs as if they are directly serving His needs. They also understand that all men are to be treated with a level of respect, as beings created in the image of God, that exemplifies respect for God. Furthermore, they understand that distinctions as to the fundamental worth of any man is based upon his standing before God with regard to the shed blood of Christ, and not social and/or cultural biases and prejudices. The church is to be as a light set upon a hill. It is an aggressive evangelical entity that is committed to witness and testify to others as to the goodness, mercy, holiness, righteousness, and judgment of God. In so doing, church members understand that a part of their vocation in Christ is to actively encourage others to flee the influence of Satan and serve the living God. Witnessing is accomplished by living a life that exemplifies godliness. Godliness is inseparable from faith in God, which is always manifest as good works. As such, the church is ideally composed of children of God who are committed to serving Him by serving others; in the full realization that their own quality of fellowship with God, including their comfort in the assurance of the hope of eternal life, is contingent upon their godliness toward others. At every opportunity members endeavor to testify to others that Jesus is the Christ. However, opportunities to present a credible testimony are contingent upon one being a credible witness before others by good works. Therefore, members use their spiritual gifts to help others and thereby glorify God and serve Jesus. As part of their testimony, members encourage others to come to hear the good news presented by the gospel. They do so because they understand the gospel is the "power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth." As such, it is a spiritual conduit, from faith to faith, by which the righteousness of God is revealed to the mutual comfort of believers. Church members therefore place great importance and emphasis on the spreading of the Gospel of Christ Jesus both in their own communities and the far most outposts of humanity. Finally, church members understand they are Christ’s stewards. They recognized that the heavens and earth belong to God and not them. Therefore, they are committed to using natural resources according to God’s will, with all wisdom, prudence, and moderation and thereby glorify God. |
